How Scout Came to Be
In 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tamer Kawas and Harrison Scott met while working as travel physical therapists for a home health agency on the Big Island of Hawaii. Both were employed by two of the largest, and in our opinion most frustrating, travel therapy companies in the industry. While the recruiters were great, the companies were not.
During adventures to Kona, Waimea, Waikoloa, and countless trips to Lava Lava Beach Club, under Hawaiian skies and Kona sunsets, we bonded over the same challenges: delayed reimbursements, lack of recruiter communication, poor support, confusing pay structures, and the frustrating feeling of being just another number. Over countless conversations, we dreamed of building something better. A staffing agency that truly puts clinicians first and pays better than the rest.
Fast forward four years, and that dream became a reality with Scout Therapy Staffing. We bring unmatched support, real-time accessibility to travelers, and transparency in every contract. We know staffing agencies might be “a dime a dozen,” but we truly stand apart with higher pay and clear compensation breakdowns, improved onboarding that respects your time and skills, reimbursements that actually cover travel expenses (and go above and beyond when needed), and true advocacy, even if you decide not to work with us.
Harrison has led a private Facebook community of 800+ members for over four years, placing more than 150 PTs, OTs, and SLPs throughout that time. He also assists with the Facebook group Rate My Travel Company, a safe space for therapists to talk freely about different rehab staffing companies and their experiences, because he believes in transparency above all else. Scout Therapy Staffing was built with this same mindset—helping clinicians find jobs where people actually want to work.
